For some reason the hours today went MIA. Avery went to Goddard, but Nik picked him up so I don’t have that Freely report. Kids and I did school from 9:30 to 1:00, but somehow got less done in more time.
- Naim did Lesson 39 of DER. Only one more lesson to go (which might take two days.) This is an accomplishment because we went through that thing twice. It was the first lesson that got Naim to understand that letters have sounds (B!) and he has come so far since then. Hooked On Phonics taught Aaron to read, but it was Discoveries in Early Reading that got Naim through the door.
- Day 2, Lesson 2 in math, which was mostly workbook.
- Aaron finished HOP 1st grade. He got celebratory hot chocolate when we were out later. He will get a day off then move on to 2nd. This is the last set of the series. Then I’ve got master reader for him, which was an old HOP program for kids who were done with the program. It was dirt cheap and looks really interesting with chapter books to read. Then we will probably finish this subject we call “reading” and move on.
- Naim did the 3rd day (worksheets) of his HOP lesson 6.
- Both did 2 pp. of Sylvan
And that was as far as we got. I would have finished in the afternoon, but we had to get ready to go to NWCT. It was Naim’s first class of drama. This one is Intro to Acting. He did not want to do a play this term, he just wanted to hang out with the NWCT folks and do acting stuff. They do some kind of demonstration at the end of the term.
Aaron went to his art class at the Portland Child Art Studio. I really liked that place and Aaron was really happy with it. The studio is bright, they use “real” art supplies. They rotate to different stations (drawing, painting, 3D art) but can do what they want. The teachers just sort of guide and suggest. The teachers were really nice and friendly. Compared to some of his VH classes and the stupid Art Cubby, this seems like a lot better fit for him. And it is concurrent with Naim’s Drama, which makes me happy. It is just on the other side of the Theater building.
