July 25, 2013

Avery went to ECSE. He will have one more class for the summer and then he is off again. He brought home an Octopus puzzle that he put together. He has been talking up a storm.

Aaron and Naim…let’s see:

  • They did workbook for MIF, Ch. 14 Lesson 1.
  • Naim did 2 pp. Sylvan. Aaron got Sylvan off today because he finished his last Vocabulary book. He had vocab, spelling and reading and was supposed to do them simultaneously, but he is choosing to do one at a time. So I think Spelling is next.
  • Aaron did worksheets for HOP Lesson 7
  • Naim did DVD for HOP Lesson 3
  • Aaron did 2 pp. Handwriting
  • Naim did iPad stuff for handwritting letter Nn.
  • We did little passports: Spain

We also attended the Goddard School Ice Cream Social. It was HOT and Avery was obsessed with playing inside at the train table. There was a RACIST puppet show! It had a white male paleontologist, Einstein, Lincoln and Pocahontas, who was dressed in a leather fringed miniskirt. The three white guys made fun of her name (“hokey pokey”) and basically made her their bitch by making her pick up dinosaur doodoo. I know it was just a puppet show, but shit it was uncomfortable. I think some of the parents were raising their eyebrows at each other. I did not like that puppet guy last year, and not this year, either. He gives me the creeps.

June 6, 2013

Avery went to ECSE. He came home with next year’s calendar and his summer (maybe next years?) teacher. That place sucks so bad it is not even funny.

Anyway…I was sick with something awful, but we did get some school done.

  • Did practice book for Lesson 5, Ch. 13 in MIF
  • Each did 2pp. Sylvan
  • Aaron did worksheets for Lesson 2 in HOP (he actually did the worksheets for lesson 1, since I accidentally switched them. That means for lesson 1, he did the worksheets for Lesson 2 before even having the lesson. I don’t remember him having too much trouble with it, though.)
  • Naim did Bonus book and read story for Lesson 17 in HOP
  • Aaron did number 5 in HWT
  • Naim did Letter Ss stuff on iPad for ZB
  • Aaron did Little Passports for Ireland.

April 15, 2013

Avery and I were about 30 minutes late to school, he didn’t want to get up so we had cuddle time. He stayed the day and Nik picked him up. Report here. Nik is going to visit him on Friday on his Furlough day.

Big Kids:

  • We read Mud! (Naim read it and did quite well.) and did the workbook pages.
  • We did the whole box of subtraction flashcards and they did much better than I thought. It is sticking!
  • Naim did the worksheets for his lesson in HOP
  • Aaron did the DVD for whatever he is on in HOP
  • Both did 2 pp. of Sylvan
  • Naim did the Ee Ff and Cc review stuff for ZB
  • Aaron did f in HWT
  • We watched BrainPop about taxes.
  • We looked at Aaron’s Little Passports thing about Russia
  • They had Art and Drama downtown.

Aaron had an Art meltdown because the teacher didn’t do something or other how he wanted it. I couldn’t quite get what the deal was…so I was just “Aaron, stop with the meltdown.” The teacher actually did a really nice job of talking with Aaron and calming him down a bit.  I was too busy being annoyed.

February 15, 2013

Avery’s Freely from Goddard, except now that it is coming from the Preschool room, I may change the name to the Further Report. I picked him up in that room today. But he doesn’t officially start from there until March.

Big Kids:

  • Math end of chapter 12 “math journal” stuff.
  • 2 pp. Sylvan each plus spelling words.
  • Both did respective HOP worksheets.
  • Naim did the letter L with the iPad and books in ZB
  • Aaron did y in HWT, he had to use the iPad, too of course.
  • We did a Little Passports China thing. Naim was very upset to find out he was born in the year of the Monkey.

Naim had a short playdate with R. They went to the park.

October 18, 2012

Avery went to Goddard. Traci says he is sick of his lunch and doesn’t eat it. It cracked me up because I never know what Nik packs, but when she started telling me what he had today I could have recited it. So, it isn’t only me who sees Nik’s lack of creativity around meals. I think it must come from not being able to just go and scan around the kitchen to see what’s there, you fall back on the same things. I have done dinner menus for him, so now I think I need to make a list of lunch ideas, too. Wait–didn’t I do that already once or twice? Where do those things go?

Big Kids:

  • Naim did Lesson 26 of DER
  • We did 8.11 and a practice/review in Calvert Math
  • They did each 2 pp. of Sylvan. Aaron started his new 2nd grade book. It is not too hard for him, it is just right. But he has a lot more writing than he is used to and he is being a whiner about it.
  • Naim did worksheets, review of words, and shared reading and song in HOP Lesson 2.
  • Aaron did a worksheet and reread “Over My Head” for HOP Lesson 8. (And told me all about DNA and RNA and drew double helixes on his paper.)
  • Did HWT #1-5
  • Watched BrainPop Jr. about 100 and skip counting
  • Watched BrainPop about two party system and elections
  • Did Lesson 2 in Maps, Globes and Graphs (which is going to become MMG)
  • Did Little Passports to India
  • Naim practiced his lines and songs for his play (Aaron helped.)
  • Naim had soccer.

Soccer pics came at soccer practice today:

September 27, 2012

Avery’s Freely Report.

Big Kids:

  • Aaron read Usborne Phonics Reader “Frog on a Log.”
  • Naim did Lesson 21 of DER. reviewed workbook and did a color book (color words) that we did not finish last time.
  • Aaron did a memory game from Sylvan that we skipped before.
  • Calvert Math 8.5 and 8.6: Rounding to the nearest 10 and Logic problems.
  • Sylvan: Aaron did 4 pp. transportation words. Naim did two pages of animal words.
  • Aaron did Lesson 6 of HOP 1st 2, DVD and workbook
  • Naim did Lesson 1 of HOP k 2, DVD and workbook
  • Sentence School was Paper is weak. Wood is strong.
  • HWT was the number 1 on magnet board and workbook
  • Little Passports activities for South Africa
  • Naim had soccer practice. Aaron and Avery played with other sibs.

August 22, 2012

Avery’s Freely. Love this one: “We coordinated group support for an individual as we sang “The name game.” I believe they sang the song, but the sentence sounds like they did an intervention on a kid that OD-ed on gummy-vites. Heh. Anyway…

Big Kids:

  • Both kids watched Lesson 14 in DER. Naim did the questions and reviewed workbook. I decided to start them both in Discoveries in Reading when Naim is finished with this.  Aaron is either going to watch it with him or read some books to me while he waits.
  • Did Lessons 7.8 and 7.9 in Calvert Math on probability.
  • Naim sorted word cards for Sylvan, Aaron did 4 pp.
  • Naim read “Tim and Sam” for HOP. This is the final book. We are going to do one more day, and read the book again and call it finished.
  • Aaron did Lesson 4 in his HOP. Read Chick-Chick the Ping-Pong Champ. The book had real photographs of world landmarks and Aaron knew most of them and what  country they were in. (i.e. Eifel Tower, Great Wall, Taj Mahal, Niagra Falls.)
  • Sentence School, “Ava works. Ava rests.” talked about subject verb agreement.
  • Aaron read Mat Man on the Go for handwriting and they did sentence school sentences on the white board. They also drew and labeled Mat Man on the white board and did workbook page.
  • Naim did a bunch of letters and all the numbers practice on the handwriting app I have on the ipad. Need to get him a stylus, though, for better transfer of skills to paper.
  • Watched brainpop about Big Bang, Mars, other stuff.
  • Went through Little Passports stuff about Mexico.

Aaron took over the white board after the whole Mat Man activities. Here is the result. Something about Cats and Dogs Revenge.
